Tribute to William C Hinkle by David M Beske #RIP

Today's post is in honor of my late brother-in-law, William "Bill" Hinkle.
Bill passed away on June 6, 2013

Poem by David M Beske
(read as part of Bill's eulogy)

To my friend
William Clyde Hinkle
He had a very special way
Of brightening up your darkest day
Gentle and kind
Yet firm and strong
Painting "William C Hinkle" by Thomas Finley
A superstar person
I can’t believe that you’re gone
Working with you
Indeed was a pleasure
Seven years as my foreman
You were more like a mentor

I truly will miss you
Wow what a great friend
Someone I could talk too
Again and again
But now that you’ve left us
Far far behind
The Lord must have a plan
You were one of a kind
We’ll keep you close
In our hearts my dear friend
Until I see you in heaven
Take Care
The End

Sincerely,
David M. Beske

Cherry Hinkle, Bill's widow, is an author and ufologist well-known for her extensive research. She and Bill spent many hours researching and visiting sites. The couple lived in the Las Vegas area and the desert was often cruel to plants, but Bill was famous for bringing them back from the brink. After his death, a simple willow stick included in a spray of flowers at his funeral sprouted a green sprig.

Inside the Secret Society of the CHOSEN

Welcome to the MFRW Rainbow Blog Hop -- and by extension, to the Tarthian Empire. This blog post features Science Fiction Romance.

Wulf
The Chosen serve the immortals known as Sempervians. Like any group, it has its hidden alignments, mistrust, and mistakes. It also harbors enemies and spies within its ranks -- some known and tolerated, others hidden behind layers so convoluted even the ones who live forever haven't figured them out.

Chosen is an acrostic for:
Called to serve
Honored to protect
Obedient to the vow
Safeguards of the truth
Enablers of life
Neutralizers of threats

Alitus
This won't give away the plot -- just the focus of the stories. The Tales of the Chosen trilogy at Liquid Silver Books focuses on relationships among Luc Saint-Cyr, Wulf Gabriel, Alitus Vivaldi, and Rheyn Destoiya. It's a complex tangle, and begins with Luc and Wulf, jumps to Alitus and Rheyn, and ends with Alitus and Wulf.

In Wulf, immortal Luc Saint-Cyr rescues his Chosen, Wulf Gabriel, and their relationship as lovers begins. In Alitus, the relationship of Alitus with Rheyn (another immortal) alters when she is required to test Alitus before he can become her Chosen. In the final book, we meet Jawk, the Chosen of an immortal whose identity is obscure until the end of the story. Jawk's hidden agenda slices through the cozy partnerships previously established, and sets the immortals at one another's throats. Things will never be the same between any of them.

Here's a quick peek at each book.
Jawk
Lust. Power. Forgiveness. Can a romance live forever?
To survive, superstar Wulf Gabriel must depend on the one man he swore he would never trust again - the most powerful and feared man in the empire - the Harbinger. Saving Wulf is simple; gaining his trust will take reaching into the Harbinger's own dark past and facing a truth he's avoided since the night Wulf's father died. ...Because of him.
Wulf: Tales of the Chosen http://lsbooks.com/wulf-p684.php
Genre: Erotic Science Fiction Romance (Male/Male)
(Note: this book was BANNED by Apple and iTunes -- it's too hot for them!)

Passion. Addiction. Loyalty. Can true love bare its heart forever?
Alitus Vivaldi is a Better, an enhanced human bred for intelligence, discipline, and responsiveness. His combined talents in bed and politics take him from the Conqueror's favorite pleasure slave to her personal assistant. To help the Conqueror accomplish her secret agenda, he willingly forsakes his identity and pride, but when he must prove he's overcome his greatest fear, not even the noble Alitus is above temptation.
Surrender Love
Alitus: Tales of the Chosen http://lsbooks.com/alitus-p57.php
Genre: Erotic Science Fiction Romance (Male/Male, Male/Female)

Pleasure. Trust. Possession. Is a betrayal of the heart forever?
Jawk Brighton works at Batchelors, a hip gay restaurant/club in the Top Tier district of Tarth City, where he meets the immortal Luc Saint-Cyr. Luc offers Jawk a deal too good to pass up, one night showing him and his Chosen, Wulf Gabriel, a good time in exchange for far more than his usual pay. But one night with the sensual Jawk will change the relationship between the immortal and his Chosen --

forever.

Genre: Erotic Science Fiction Romance (Male/Male, Male/Male/Male)

Forbid My Heart
In the secret society of the Chosen, being gay or straight is no different from being brown-eyed or blue-eyed. No one notices. But disloyalty? That's an offense punishable by death. No trial needed. In this trilogy, everyone's loyalty is questioned. How can you tell which follower is loyal to which leader? Factor in leaders who have dual allegiances, and knowing who to trust takes on a whole new level of danger -- especially if you live forever.

Other books featuring these immortals and their Chosen include Surrender Love, and Forbid My Heart from Loose Id.

Inside Look at Outlantacon / Gaylaxicon 2013 #LGBT

Outlantacon 2013
Report by Kayelle Allen
ATLANTA, GA -- Just back from my favorite convention of the year -- any year -- Outlantacon. The conference is an Atlanta-based event for the Queer Geek audience. They have all the usual convention fare: discussion panels, gaming, costuming, special events, etc. with the difference being it all has a queer 'bent' to it. This year was the third time hosting Gaylaxicon, a national convention with the same themes. I have volunteered to assist on the board of Gaylaxicon and also to work with the Outlantacon PR Chair for next year.

I attended panels on writing, blogging, gaming, social media, plus a release party for the book Butt Pirates in Space (see the cake image). The book was authored by five of my friends: Kiernan Kelly, Kage Alan, Angelia Sparrow, TC Blue, and Shae Connor. It became the running joke at the con whether you were a butt pirate or not one. I was unable to attend the late-night theater in which members of the audience read the sexy parts of books and another audience member acted out those parts with sock puppets. I hear things were broken due to people falling down laughing. *note to self: make plans to stay up later next year*

The con suite had delicious (free) food, and the hotel itself was wonderful. Anything we needed was handled immediately. My hubby went with me this year. He helped with setting up, taking down, and making sure everything went smoothly in transitions. He took photos and kept track of time so I was where I was supposed to be. The one time he managed to slip away and do something fun for himself, I managed to get myself into the wrong room and ended up on a fun panel -- albeit not the one for which I was scheduled. *facepalm* No one's fault but my own, but if you were looking for me in that social media panel and I wasn't there -- my apologies. Now you see why I need a keeper. ^_^

Panel: Gays in the Military
Edward deGruy, me, Vandy Beth
Outlantacon has extensive gaming, and I attended a workshop on game creation chaired by Andrew Greenberg. He's the president of the Georgia Game Developers Association and organizer of the Southeast Interactive Entertainment and Games Expo (SIEGE). Find him on Facebook or visit the gamedevelopers page. I'll be working on a new game designed from the one my immortals play in the Tarthian Empire books (Peril). You can see the shirt I had created for it here.

As I was looking over pictures of myself on panels over the years, I noticed the same water bottle in front of me. It's getting quite old, but it's part of my family's long-term commitment to recycling. We have a saying at our house: Use it up; wear it out; make it do; do without. Using the same water bottle to a convention and using it every day at home is one tiny part of it.

Moxie Magnus
The panel-type games were a blast, and the Match Game (link to image) was hysterically funny. You have to be there to appreciate how wild and silly the questions and answers can be. I was thrilled to see Ms Moxie Anne Magnus again this year. This time traveler is the Chief Cosmetology Officer aboard the USS Enterprise. You don't think those bouffant hairstyles just "happened" do you? The person behind Moxie is just as adorable. :)

MFRW Members:
Kiernan Kelly,
Ally Blue, me, Eden Winters
It was great to see members of my Marketing for Romance Writers group there. We had a mini-meetup. Kiernan Kelly, Eden Winters, Ally Blue, and me. I have an online meeting scheduled this week to discuss the group and promotional possibilities for it with the developer of a new social media client system. More on that as I learn details.

If you're interested in learning more about this convention, see the links below. Can't wait till next year. I hope to see many of you there!

Review: Revenant by Janet Elizabeth Jones #vampire

RevenantRevenant by Janet Elizabeth Jones

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Janet Elizabeth Jones sweeps the reader into a different time and place seamlessly. The rhythm and majesty of her words elevates this book from the common vampire story and into a classical work of literary art. While this may make the book sound too lofty for a sensual romp, that is far from true. The scene when Ellory teaches Talisen how to play pool, using both his own body as well as his powers to show her the truth of what he is made the fine hair on my neck stand up. It was eerie, yet one of the most sensual scenes in the book. It's also the pivot point around which the rest of the book rests.

This is not your usual vampire fare. There are no "sparkles" or faint-hearted heroines who need to be rescued. Talisen holds her own and does her best to save Ellory. In fact, her sacrifice for him is the reason for the title of this book. If you want fluff -- read something else. This is vampire romance for the real fan.

I adore vampire books, and treasure the many I own. This ranks above them all. Highly recommended.

April 28: Last Day to Grab Forbid My Heart at No Cost #sfrb

Forbid My Heart
Today is the last day to grab Forbid My Heart: A Luc and Rah Story for FREE from Loose Id. Surrender Love (the prequel for this story) is on sale for $5.99 (usually $7.99). Forbid My Heart is a great opportunity to meet the characters.

About Luc and Rah (Izzorah)

Waking in the middle of the night, Izzorah begins to worry. His lover has pledged to take him back to visit his homeworld, but Izzorah knows the fact that they're gay could cause their death if the Kin Pride Council hears about it. His heart tells him to trust Luc, but Izzorah's fear is real. He snuggles up to Luc, seeking comfort.
Luc is immortal. He has the perspective to understand his lover's concerns and not worry about them. To distract Izzorah, Luc tries a sexy game of dominance and submission played during their shared shower. Izzorah's unreserved trust and respect make Luc long to wipe out any shadow of trouble or sorrow. He would turn the Kin homeworld upside down to protect him, but convincing Izzorah he can do it will mean confessing a truth Luc is not yet ready to share.
Luc and Rah must learn: where the heart leads -- follow.

A little taste of the book

Scene: Luc and Izzorah’s penthouse, middle of the night. Rah is worried about returning to his homeworld, and Luc tries to reassure him. Rah gets a little distracted. (Rah is a Kin, a feline humanoid with catlike ears, eyes, claws hidden beneath human nails, and the ability to
smell emotions.)
---

"No one--and I mean no one--will dare raise his or her voice or hand against you. You and I will not be subject to the whims of a Kin matriarch or anyone else." Still holding Izzorah's hand, Luc drew it against his own chest and turned the palm over his heart. "When I say I'll take you home and keep you safe, trust me; that's a promise I can and will keep."
Luc's will stood between them like a living creature, solid as the walls around them. He might mean every word he said. He might be able to kill the Falehla tzesar. But keep them safe on Felidae? Oh, Luc. I'm not sure anyone can do that.
Izzorah remained silent. He would not dishonor his lover by arguing the point. He hadn't won agreement about not going home, but he could deal with that later. He approached the subject from a different angle. He leaned back, lowered his ears, and set them outward, showing submission instead of willfulness.
He rose to his knees, grabbed Luc, and flattened him against the bed. He clamped his fangs on the tip of Luc's chin.
"Um...Rah?"
Purring in response, Izzorah kept his teeth against Luc's skin.
"This bite's good?" Luc's mixed scent revealed curiosity.
Izzorah released him and sat astride Luc's waist. He tossed his head to move hair out of his eyes. "Ehh nim shree."
"Ah. A love bite. You're being playful."
Gaze locked with Luc's, Izzorah bent forward and lightly nipped Luc's lower lip, nibbled the upper one, and then scraped his teeth across the tip of Luc's nose. He kissed it, then moved back to hover above his mouth, their gazes still linked. "I was bite-thanking you."
"You're welcome. What did I do to deserve that exactly?"
"You listened to me. I was missing Purkinje, and you helped me feel better."
"I'll always listen. I'm sorry about your horse, love. Buying you another one might not help, because it wouldn't be Purkinje, but maybe we..." His voice trailed off as Izzorah slid claws through Luc's curls. Luc sighed in pleasure. "Mmm. I like it when you do that." He went completely still.
"I like touching you." Izzorah bent down and licked the width of Luc's mouth. He brushed his lips across Luc's, gave another gentle nip, and then licked him again. "I think you need to be thanked some more so you know how much I appreciate you. Maybe I should tongue-thank you here." He slipped his tongue across Luc's right nipple. The scent of warm brown sugar and melting butter revealed Luc's rising desire. "You taste of salt, sex, and male. I need to bite-thank and tongue-thank you all over."

5 Myths About How Cats View Humans #humor

Luc and Rah as cats...
I write Science Fiction Romance, and many of my stories involve the Kin, a feline humanoid species who are at once quite human and quite catlike. It occurred to me that discussing myths about how cats view humans might be helpful in understanding how the Kin view humans. Here are my top five items from that list.

Myth #1: Cats don't like humans.
Cats like humans very much. They think humans are useful domestic animals. If possible, I'm told, every cat should own at least one.
Kin like humans too, but because humans fight so hard for independence, it's difficult to own one. Besides, unlike Kin who use only natural cleansers, humans tend to groom themselves with scented soaps and lotions, and the smell is-- well. The smell.

Myth #2: Cats don't listen to humans.
They listen. They occasionally blink to show they've registered human words. Now and then a cat will twitch its tail in response. Listening does not imply cats care what humans are saying. That is an entirely different matter.
Kin listen to humans. It's just that with the placement of their ears on the upper parts and sides of their heads -- the human voice enters on one side, and goes right out the other.

Myth #3: Cats don't pay attention.
Far from true. Cats completely understand the meaning of focus, and nothing comes between them and their quarry when hunting -- unless they want it to.
The Kin focus extremely well, but are capable of switching focus in an instant, giving the impression they are not paying attention.

Myth #4: Training is difficult with cats.
Far from true. Most cats can have a human trained within 48 hours.
A Kin needs far less time.

Myth #5: Cats expect humans to feed them.
This is mostly true. However, many cats are capable of rustling up a mouse or other pest for dinner if forced to fend for themselves. That said, this is no excuse to abandon them.
Kin have no need of anyone to feed them. They have opposable thumbs and can manage quite well in the kitchen. That said, if you live with one of these fascinating creatures, you learn quickly there is no snooze button on a Kin who wants breakfast.

Did You Know There's an #EarthDay Anthem? #EcoChallenges

The beauty of our world
Earth Day began in 1970 and was the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin. It is an international holiday to promote conservation and concern for the environment.

The "Earth Day Anthem" below satisfies these requirements for a universal song associated with Earth Day. Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" melody is already the official anthem of the European Union (in that case purely instrumental without lyrics), the melody is widely recognized and easily performed, in the public domain, and originally composed for voice.

Earth Day Anthem

Joyful joyful we adore our Earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love throughout all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world

Drated: an abandoned world
Conservation is a prevalent theme in many science fiction stories about the future, with films like Soylent Green, Children of Men, and Avatar. Each warned of consequences for not controlling the environment. Whether it's recycling, reading eBooks, planting a garden, or taking part in Earth Day activities, each of us can play a part. Whatever the future may hold, one thing is certain -- we can each take responsibility for our surroundings and do our part to make the world a better place.  Pictured: Drated, an abandoned world in the Tarthian Empire (from books in my Tarthian Empire series).

At the Mercy of Her What? by Kayelle Allen

Here's a peek at the way my book, At the Mercy of Her Pleasure got its name.
At the Mercy of Her Pleasure
---
Senth Antonello holds a lofty position in the elite Thieves' Guild. Drugged since puberty to suppress his feral half-feline side, nothing suppresses his daredevil, risk-loving human half. His master offers him a deal. Work with NarrAy Jorlan, a Better, an enhanced woman with addictive, pleasure-laced pheromones, and Senth's master will buy and free Senth's cruelly enslaved older brother. The job? Grab-and-go. The condition? Remain a virgin. The drug Senth takes ensures it, no matter how tempting the woman or her pheromones. The problem? Nothing goes right. The job outlasts the drug's effect. All Senth wants is one touch, one kiss, one oh-so-tempting lick of NarrAy's perfect, lush skin. The downside? With his brother's freedom at stake, how can he risk putting himself at the mercy of her pleasure?

Warning: Contains half-feline thief who plays with what he steals, and a by-the-book military heroine whose passion he liberates. Author not liable for items missing once book is open, including hearts.
---
"You know your brother's master and I are old…friends." Luc Saint-Cyr's emphasis on the last word sent a chill up Senth's spine. "I want to help Khyffen. He'd be an exceptional asset to my face business."
For Women Only was Saint-Cyr's private security company and one of the faces for his true business. It offered premium protection services to celebrity female clientele.
"Thank you, sir."
"You offered once to bargain for his freedom." Saint-Cyr stopped on the stairs, and then turned back. "Are you still open to that?"
Senth leaned forward. "Yes, sir! Whatever it takes."
Saint-Cyr shook a finger at him. "What have I told you about being too eager?"
"Sorry, Sen'dai." He hung back. "You surprised me."
"Bargains are always a surprise. Keep that in mind."
"Sen'dai." He lowered his head in respect.
"Senthys, you'll be free in two years. Khyffen still has eight. Suppose I were to guarantee his freedom in less than a week?"
Senth tried not to show his glee, but a smile pasted itself across his face anyway.
The Harbinger closed his solid black eyes, head shaking in a way that said, What am I to do with you?
"I'm sorry, sir! You've never lied to me. I trust your word."
The black-skinned man gazed down at him for a silent moment. He nodded and laid a hand on Senth's shoulder. "And well you should."
"What do I have to do, sir, for Khyff's freedom?"
"The job we're meeting about tonight will bring in a fortune for us, but it holds extreme risk for you. I don't usually give you a choice, but this time I'm going to because of the job's importance. I'm also offering to buy Khyffen and free him. In return, I want a few promises."
"You know I want this, sir. I'll do whatever it takes."
The Harbinger's mouth lifted at one side. "Never admit that to anyone either."
"Yes, sir."
"Senthys, you understand why I've kept you on Shackle?"
While Khyff's master had addicted him to Thrust, which put his sex drive into overload, Shackle did the opposite to Senth. From puberty forward, he'd never known life without it. The drug also controlled aggression.
"Yes, Sen'dai," he answered swiftly. "I never want that to happen again."
"Good." The Harbinger tapped a knuckle against his mouth, frowning at him. "You know what they'd do to you if it did, don't you? Where they'd take you?"
"Yes, sir." He stiffened. "I don't want that."
"No, of course not. After five days without Shackle, you'll start withdrawal. Your heart will pound. Your head will feel like it's splitting apart. And for several days, you'll have a semi permanent erection. You understand what that means?"
"Yes, Sen'dai. I'd be as high and strung out as Khyff is on weekends."
"Well put. There's a possibility of stroke if you quit cold. It's extremely dangerous. You must taper off the drug. Do you understand?"
He nodded. "I do, sir."
"This job should take four days, so it's important that you return as soon as it's over."
"Yes, sir."
"I'll dose you before you leave to ensure you have the full five-day effect."
"Thank you, sir."
"The reason I've told you all this is because you'll be working side by side with a Better."
Senth opened his mouth, shut it again, and then mouthed, Better?
"Listen to me, my young Deshai. Despite the romantic nonsense you've heard about Betters being extraordinary lovers, their kisses can poison you. If her saliva mixes with yours, she can control your mind. The touch of her hands will drive you insane. There are ancient myths about sirens, women who used their voices to lure men and then slay them. Betters aren't mythical. They're real. If she subjects you to her passion, you'll be at the mercy of her pleasure forever."

Forbid My Heart: A Luc and Rah Story

By Kayelle Allen

Waking in the middle of the night, Izzorah begins to worry. His lover has pledged to take him back to visit his homeworld, but Izzorah knows the fact that they're gay could cause their death if the Kin Pride Council hears about it. Izzorah's heart tells him to trust Luc, but his fear is real. He snuggles up to Luc, seeking comfort.
Luc is immortal. He has the perspective to understand his lover's concerns, and not worry about them. He tries to distract Izzorah with a sexy game of dominance and submission played during their shared shower. Izzorah's unreserved trust and respect make Luc long to wipe out any shadow of trouble or sorrow. He would turn the Kin homeworld upside down to protect him, but convincing Izzorah he can do it will mean confessing a truth Luc is not yet ready to share.
Each must learn: where the heart leads -- follow.

If You're Bad in Hell... Deleted Scene from For Women Only #mfrwhop

This is a deleted scene from the book For Women Only, an erotic Science Fiction Romance. Khyff is a master of pleasure with a tortured soul. Mehfawni wants to redeem the man her people destroyed. His fragile trust could be a response of love and a healing heart -- or a ruse for revenge.
Warning: this book contains smokin' hot sex, humor, and angst. This combination has been proven addictive. Author assumes no responsibility for the reader's battery consumption in adult toys while reading this book. ;)

Setting up the scene

Khyff is under orders to seduce Ambassador Mehfawni Ruh, or his brother will be allowed to die. If Khyff obeys, his brother will live. All his life, Khyff has been forced into one compromising situation after another. Now, after getting to know Mehawni, he is torn about hurting her. But what can he possibly do? I deleted this scene because it didn't add to the overall story, but I've always liked it.
---
"Have you ever been to Kyrenie, Fawni?"
"Kyrenie. Isn't that the firestorm planet? Have you been there?"
Khyff nodded.
"Lucky you! I've heard it's beautiful. What was it like?"
"Lucky? Hmm. Do your people believe in hell?"
Mehfawni covered her mouth. "Yes."
"If you're bad in hell, they send you to Kyrenie."
She gasped, then caught the flicker of a smile in his eyes. They both laughed.
"Oh, I'm so sorry." She slid her fingertips down his cheek and along his chin. "You will never have to go back there."
He pressed his brow against hers. "Thank you for saying that."
She could smell his relief, a sweet fragrance like White Vulits, clean and fresh. "No one will ever make you do anything you don't want to do again."
His scent abruptly changed. He turned his head. Was it that he didn't believe her? Or was there some part of what she'd said that he thought was a lie? Mehfawni stroked her fingers into his hair and drew him closer for a quick kiss. "I want you to believe me, Khyffy." She pressed her cheek against his. "I want to make you feel safe."
With a sigh, Khyff took her hands and rested his brow against hers. "Please. Don't promise me anything. Just love me."

Top 5 Reasons to Marry an #Immortal

Wulf - about an immortal and a human
Immortals aren’t like most people. If you find one who’s lived for hundreds -- or thousands of years, you soon realize they have different values. Marriage to someone who’s been around longer than your country has been in existence will be a challenge from day one, but it’s worth the work. Here are the top five reasons why.

5. You can expect to be showered with gifts. You won’t get costume jewelry from an immortal. They appreciate quality, and because they’ve lived so long, have often aquired a great deal of wealth.

4. Immortals are sensual. They’ve generally outgrown old morals and are more able to embrace pleasure for its own sake.

3. Immortals have angst. They've been alone for decades, centuries, perhaps even eons. Their battered souls long for refuge, and who better to give it to them than their soul mates? Especially with raw, yet tender sex.

2. In order to hide what they are in public, immortals often have to pretend they’re something they’re not. Which means they’re good at role playing. Want your guy to dress up like a highwayman or a pirate? If he’s been around for hundreds of years, he actually might have been one!

1. And the top reason... because immortals love forever.

Forever is a long time to be without romance. If you find an immortal -- never let them go.

Rah Goes Mowt Hunting #sfrb #humor

Mowts are similar to mice.

Rah Goes Mowt Hunting
A standalone story featuring Luc Saint-Cyr and Izzorah Ceeow from Surrender Love
Copyright © 2013 by Kayelle Allen

Setting up the scene: Luc and Rah are in their penthouse atop the Nizamrak Building, watching their entertainment system. Luc decides to see if Rah’s Kin hearing is as good as a cat’s.
---

Luc grabbed a handful of popcorn and crunched it. To his left, Izzorah watched the wall-sized screen, mindlessly eating a few kernels of popcorn at a time. The images held his attention completely. Luc slid his right hand down to the outside of the couch, and with one finger, made two quick scratches against the leather.

Izzorah’s closest ear twitched, but he didn’t look away.

Luc ate a bit more popcorn, and then gave another scratch.

“Did you hear that?” Izzorah turned to him.

“Hear what?”

“Sounded like a mowt.”

Luc frowned. “What would a rodent from your homeworld be doing two hundred stories above ground on Tarth?”

Cocking his ears back and forth, Izzorah waited a moment. At last, he shook his head. “Never mind. Must’ve imagined it.”

After a minute, Luc scratched the couch again.

Izzorah put down his popcorn. “Okay, Luc, now I know you had to hear that!”

“Hear what?” He used his right hand to pick up some popcorn.

“I’m telling you, there’s a mowt in here.” He stood and walked around the couch, peering at the edges.

Luc turned his head to keep him in view. “What are you doing?”

“Mowt hunting.”

“How can you be hunting if you don’t have a gun?”

“Don’t be silly.” Izzorah laid back his ears. “Indoors, you use a broom.”

“What, and smack them?” He mimed whacking a broom onto the ground.

“No. You stick the handle under the couch and scare them out, and then you grab ‘em. I could go for a mowt. Haven’t eaten one since -- wow. I can’t remember.”

“I’ll stick to this.” Luc tossed up some popcorn and caught it with his mouth.

“Maybe you shouldn’t do that.” Izzorah motioned to the bowl. “I’ll bet that’s why there are mowts up here. They smelled popcorn on the floor.”

“Are you kidding me? You think McDoth would let one kernel of popcorn stay where it didn’t belong? That android is compulsive about cleaning. No way we have mowts.”

“I know what I heard.” Izzorah knelt and peered under the couch.

When he did, Luc scratched the edge with his fingertip.

Izzorah yanked up his head.

Luc did it again, and then broke into laughter.

Rah took a flying leap and tackled him, knocking popcorn everywhere.

Laughing the entire time, Luc went down with arms and legs flailing. He and Izzorah tussled for a moment before Luc rolled his lover beneath him. He slanted his mouth over Izzorah’s, and felt him yield to the kiss. The taste was salty, with a hint of popcorn, and a tang of aroused male. He stroked his tongue into his lover’s mouth for more.

Izzorah responded with ardor, wrapping both arms around him. He kissed the tip of Luc’s nose. “You’re fun to wrestle with.”

He brushed his lips across Rah’s. “I love teasing you. You’re not mad, are you?”

“No, but that was sneaky.” Izzorah extended one claw tip.

“I can’t believe you fell for it.”

He chuckled. “Neither can I.”

Surrender Love
Luc sat up, and held out a hand to Izzorah. They stood together, and began brushing off their clothes.

McDoth, passing through the room, stopped and stared at the popcorn on the floor. “Look at this mess! I must clean that up immediately. We’ll draw mowts.”

Luc and Rah looked at one another and grinned.

“And what is so funny about mowts? I’m fetching a broom.”

They broke into gales of laughter.

McDoth gave them an indignant glare.
